Project Information

At 01.22 am on September 28th, 1994, a mayday call is heard from the cruise ferry M/S Estonia — the ship has run into a heavy storm with high rising waves in the middle of the Gulf of Finland. On board there are 989 passengers. Only 137 survived. In less than 35 minutes 852 lives are lost, following the ship in to the depths of the Baltic Sea.

The sinking of the M/S Estonia is the second deadliest maritime disaster in peacetime, after the Titanic.

Estonia is an 8 x 45 min character-driven drama, depicting the accident and the quest for answers that followed. Estonia is co-produced with Fisher King and TV4/C More.
